Reading

Even though I do not read a lot as compared to many other heavy readers, I am convinced without any doubt that reading is a habit that will benefit us throughout our whole life. I do intend and wish that I could find time to read more books as far as possible. I also will inculcate this habit into my kids.

Reading is a way of communication whereby the thoughts and experiences of the writer are conveyed to the readers. The reader can take his own time to read and understand the information contained in the book. Acquiring knowledge through reading is like taking a guided path in our journey from the start point to our destination. If we do not read, we may need to learn many things in life the hard ways. It is like trying to reach our destination through numerous roads without the road signs.

As long as we have the ability to read and understand, our life long journey of acquiring knowledge will be made much simpler. There are books or online materials nowadays almost on all topics that we can imagine. Learning a new knowledge becomes possible and accessible to all of us through reading despite that the expert / teacher in this field is not around us. Of course we also should be aware that there are other means and mediums of learning that may be more effective than reading such as audio visual materials, attending conferences, interaction with others etc. However, reading is special because the number and variety of books available are just tremendous and they are readily available. We can read anywhere and any time in between our daily schedules.

I recently acquire this book “Understanding the Enneagram” authored by Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson, and now I am still in the process of reading it.

This book explores the nine Enneagram personality types and it provides guides on how to apply the knowledge to our daily life.

If I find materials that are worth sharing, I will do so through the blog here.

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give. (Winston Churchill)
