(Sun Moon Lake)

Sun Moon Lake is one of the most scenic places of Taiwan. It is a heaven for a photography enthusiast like me.

I experimented with different White Balance setting to obtain different feel. The effect of different temperature setting towards the final image is amazingly vast, as can be seen in the images shown above.

My personal preference is a little colder temperature that gives rise to a bluish scene. However, overusing the white balance also will give rise to an artificial feel that many people dislike and try to avoid. This obviously is down to personal liking.

Do you mind to share which of the photographs above do you like the most?

  7. All,
Thanks for sharing your personal view/preference on the images. For now, I personally like the 2nd and the 4th photograph the most. However I wish to tone down a little on the 4th photograph to make the bluish cold theme subtler and less obvious. It is highly possible that my taste may change with time as I am exposed more to photography world. Learning is a never-ending process…..

The 1st image was shot in jpeg hence the WB is determined by the auto mode (I believe it should be around 5200). The 2nd, 3rd and 4th images were shot in raw format then the WB was adjusted post shoot in the PC between 3000 Kelvin to 4500 Kelvin. It is fantastic to know that the adjustment of the WB, hence altering the tone of the image, can lead to vast variation in the final images (The original tone of the 2nd, 3rd & 4th photos actually are similar to the 1st one).

While I like to maintain the original color of a scene as much as possible, I also wish that my images could look a little more stunning with richer colors. Hopefully with more experiments I could improve on my shooting skill as well as my photo editing skill.

  10. Mei Teng,
The 1st pic was shot in jpeg, the rest were shot in raw. Now I find one disadvantage of shooting raw, it is very tempting (for me) to over adjust the wb, tone, contrast, saturation etc for raw images...:-)

    imyuyu,
