(Small World)

The world of macro photography brings to us perspective of life that is normally reserved only for the world of small bugs. Under the macro lens, even the little unknown bug and wild flower at the roadside could stand out with their stunning beauty and artistic pattern. If we care to see and feel with out heart, many tiny life forms in our surroundings actually are great beauties that are awe inspiring.

I took some macro photographs with my new lens over the last weekend, experimenting with different settings of apertures from f2.8 to f16 to gain different depth of field at different situations.

It has been fun focusing at close-up view of numerous small flowers and insects and stunned by the textures and patterns of them. However, it was quite difficult to shoot moving bugs such as butterfly and dragonfly.

I will definitely try out more macro photography in the future as I am starting to get addicted to it.

  1. These are close-up shots, not macro yet. I am sure you can get nearer to the subjects.

  3. Did you shoot with a tripod? Macro photography with a tripod is important. Minimizes camera shake as even the slighest movement can affect images.

  4. khengsiong,
My lens can only produce magnification of 1:1, for larger magnification I may need to add accessories or ensure super sharp image then crop the photo. The minimum focusing distance of the lens is 300mm.

Will experiment further and share again in the near future.

    Mei Teng,
I have not tried the tripod yet, it seems to be awkward out-door. Also I actually made a blunder by accidentally set the ISO to 3200 when I did not need to do that. Anyway this is the first debut and there are plenty of rooms for improvement. ……:-)

  6. Mei Teng,
This is a great photography website. I now realized I actually made another mistake by using f2.8 most of the time where I should use bigger f number (smaller aperture) for very close shots. I guess this is why a tripod is important for the corresponding slower shutter speed....Thanks for recommending the site.
